“Base Basements was actually recommended to me by a coworker. I was pretty skeptical considering the amount of times I’ve been done wrong by contractors or poor quality work in general. Safe to say Harrison & the guys over at Base Basements did an amazing job.”

“Had these guys add some flooring and overhead lighting to my unfinished basement and they knocked it out of the park! Can’t recommend Harrison and his team enough!”

Why Working in Germantown Is Different

Germantown's shotgun houses and rowhouses run narrow and small on the main floors, so finishing the basement can add 30 to 50 percent more usable space without touching the footprint. What sits underneath is older than most of Louisville: original block or brick foundations, uneven ceiling heights, and decades of improvised plumbing and electrical filling the joists. The real issue here is the sewer. Germantown is on the older part of the system, where stormwater and sanitary flow share one pipe, and when heavy rain overloads it the lowest point it can back into is a basement floor drain. That is what ruins a finished lower level here, not damp walls.

How We Work in Germantown

We look at the floor drain and backup risk before quoting rather than after the flooring is down. MSD runs a Plumbing Modification Program for exactly this situation and a backwater valve is the usual answer, so it is far cheaper to raise while the basement is still open. We frame around the existing mechanical runs instead of burying them, keep the access panels reachable, and only put luxury vinyl plank flooring down once the slab has been checked for moisture. Basement flooring in Louisville and basement carpentry and trim in Louisville run on one schedule. We also work in The Highlands and St. Matthews.
